1989 Daytona Shelby
I recently bought an 89' Daytona Shelby 2.2 and im wondering what the main problems with these are, I heard headgaskets can be a problem, just wondering what some other problems might be so I can go ahead and fix em', stuff like vacuum hoses cracking and what not. Thanks
I've never heard of them having head gasket problems and I've had 2 of them, you might be thinking of the '92-'93 Daytona Iroc R/T's, now they had head and head gasket problems. Vacuum lines on these are very important, replacing them all would be a great idea. They are known for electrical problems though. The gauges are very problematic, especially the speedometer. With the power the Shelbys have they tend to eat up motor mounts, either get a set of motor mount inserts or find good ones and fill the holes/gaps in with black RTV silicon and let them set up good and harden, I have no idea how long it will take for them to fully dry and harden. Using synthetic oil will free up horsepower as well as protect the turbo from coking (turning it to ash) the oil. Always give it a minute or two to idle before shutting it off after you've been running it hard or have recently gotten off the freeway, this will help keep the turbo and the head happy as well as help keep it from coking the oil.[sm=smiley2.gif]
