Default Shut off on the highway Yikes!!

If anyone can help heres my dilema

Through some quick troubleshooting I've come to the conclusion I'm not getting fuel to my throttle body, I am getting 12 volts to my fuel pump when I crank the engine. Nothing with just the key on. Also I don't hear anything when I turn the key on. Is this typical? Car has been running great and shut off at 60mph on the highway. I put a small amount of fuel in the throttle body and she lit right off and ran. Great event I'm told to replace the fuel pump, tank has to come out. Should I not hear the fuel pump with just the key turned on? Oh yeah and where the heck is the fuel filter?
Thanks for any help

hey,
On my 89 daytona you can turn the key from off to on but not start it and it should come on and hear it run. And the fuel filter should be under the floor board on the passenger side. hope this helps.

Thanks for the input I appreciate it. Not sure now what to do. No voltage with just the key on but 12 volts once I crank it. Hate to change the fuel pump for $140+ and not be able to take it back. Do you know if I need a special tool to take the filter off?

91ES What else comes on when the key is turned on, dash warning lights? radio? if nothing else is coming on with the key in the on position it could be the ignition switch is your problem. Before throwing money around buy a good service manual and check out the trouble shooting guide in the fuel pump section, if you are going to keep the car awhile invest in regular Chrysler service manuals there are two one for body etc & one for engine etc they are worth every penny you pay for them.

Everything comes on when I turn the key on just not the fuel pump. If you'll note from my first post that the car still runs when I put some gas in the throttle body.
On another note I have a chiltons manual which covers about 6 different years and models of Dodge, but if fails to mention where the filter is for a 2.5L and what is needed to take it out. Haynes does not offer a 1991 daytona manual and I'm not about to invest in shop service manuals for a highly underpowered commuter car which is why I'm posting on this forum.
