Default flex plates/tranny's

Why do some motors have 6 bolts flex plates, and some 8 bolts?
I'm looking to replace what was a 5 speed tranny in a 85 laser XT 2.2L Turbo. What transmissions with years will all work in that car? standard or automatic.
and what is the difference between the 2.2 motor, 2.2 turbo, and the 2.5 motor???

Well the difference between the 2.2 and the 2.2 turbo is obviously.........the turbo, and The 2.5 engines were commonly used with automatic transmissions, Also, the 2.5's weren't intercooled from the factory, whereas the 2.2 was.If im wrong about any of this guys, correct me please.

i believe the only real defference between the 2.2 and the 2.5 short block is the crank and head ( i think) i have heard of poeple taking the crank out of the 2.5 and putting them in a 2.2 and making about a 2.3 witch is suppose to be really snappy. but don't quet me on it.
