Default RE: shifting problem

I'm assuming it's a manual trans? If so, check your engine mounts and MAKE SURE THEY ARE TORQUED TO SPEC!!! Second, re-align your shift linkages. Been there- done that. If the engine mounts are loose (or loosened and then retightened) it will throw off the trans shift cables or linkages and result in the problem with shifting. It happened to me when I changed engines, only mine was second gear. It would go into gear... almost. It would pop out and grind like mad. I readjusted the linkage and all is fine now. That would be the best bet since you didn't mention anything about difficulties with fourth gear. If that were the case you would have to open the transaxle housing and do some repair work...
