Sputter under load.
Ok, this is in my Fiancee's 01 Neon SE w/3spd auto. The problem has been around since we bought the car @ 80,000 miles and it now has 85,000 on it.
From time to time coming out of idle(ie, leaving a stop light) the car will start to sputter as if it's dropped two cyilinders and will do this until you completely back off the throttle. It will randomly do this, but for what ever reason it has been doing it more often now the temperatures are warmer outside and it's more humid. It also does this anything past 1/2 throttle.
With the A/C on the problem is much much worse, car will nearly stall out at idle when the a/c is turned on and you can barely give it any gas at all. Another thing I noticed is cruising down the interstate or at any cruising speed you can feel the car missing evey few seconds with the A/C on.
I have replaced the plugs with base Champions at the correct gap and wires have been replaced with Duralast brand wires. I am going to give the ignition coil a test and make sure it is within specs, other than that I don't really know, PCM possibly? This past week the factory car alarm has been randomly going off and I think it's due to the humidity...maybe a problem with the PCM? Really just kind of lost and looking for suggestions here. Done a search but nothing really conclusive has come from it.
Thanks,
Jason
