I have a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 with the Infinity sound system. Previous owner installed a cheap aftermarket radio and it sounds horrible. Previous install used a plug and play wire harness that retained the factory amp. I want to replace the radio with a better unit, bypass the factory amp, and retain steering wheel controls. Is there a aftermarket plug and play harness that will accomplish this? Do I need to buy a amp bypass harness and SWC kit separately to do this? The less cutting/splicing I have to do, the better. Surely someone here has done this before. Thanks!
Check on Crutchfiled, If anyone has what you are looking for, they will.
I contacted Crutchfield and that said they didn't have anything that would bypass the amp. According to the Metra website, 70-6514 will bypass the amp, although some other sites selling it does not list my year. I don't know if I get the bypass harness, if I could get a plug and play harness for a truck without the Infinity sound and use it or if the plugs on the Infinity radio are different
I would expect the infinity system is different. Have to power those amps somehow..... Why are you bypassing the amps in any event? You new head unit put out adequate power?
You will have to run all new wire. The Infinity system is a tuned system from the amp down to the speakers. Have to bypass ALL of it to upgrade, unless you find a lockpick adapter and use a newer MyGig head unit.
When my father replaced the speakers many moons ago in the doors on his 02 1500 with the infinity system, I recall he had to cut the connectors off and splice them into the replacement speakers' wiring.
