Trim on top of tailgate came off
I was driving down the interstate this afternoon doing about 75mph when I hear a strange noise and notice something flash across the view in my rear view mirror. Look up in the mirror only to see the trim piece that goes on top of the tailgate flying off to the side of the road. Oh well, guess that is gone. Is no way I'm going to go try and pick it up. It's right at a bridge on the interstate where it narrows from 4 to 2 lanes. They were going to have to replace it anyway because it sat about 1/4' high on the right side, which is probably why it came off.
I called the dealership to see if they would order the part or if they would give me trouble. Of course the girl tells me since it's a warranty repair, they have to see the vehicle first before they can order the part. I was like what good will that do? There is nothing to see, the part is gone! Doesn't matter....Chrysler policy I was told. So that will be fun making 2 trips to the dealership when it's not necessary.
Anyway, just thought I'd vent. The top of my tailgate is naked now, and it's not a good look for it...lol.

It was rather disheartening to look in the rear view mirror and see that big plastic piece flopping over to the side of the interstate...lol. Thankfully it didn't hit a car behind me and cause damage to their vehicle....that really would have made me unhappy!
Personally I think something like that should be attached with screws of some sort. Just like today when the wind was blowing really hard combined with traveling 75mph on the interstate. The least little bit of air that gets under something like that is going to rip it right off.
After seeing the huge holes that are in the top of the tailgate, I don't think there is any way I would ever just Line X over the top and have them try to fill them. Those holes are probably 2" wide by 4" long on each side with several smaller ones. Now I'm just worried about water getting down inside of my tailgate.

Double sided tape may not be a bad idea when the new one is installed. Now that I see how its attached I might put some under there as soon as I get mine.

From what I have been told on another forum there is actually a rapid response out to replace the trim piece on the tailgate (gee, I wonder why?!). The response # given was RRT 08-101. So now it's a matter of finding the time to get the truck to the dealer. I've been so busy with work I don't have time to do it.

Did you ever get that fixed by the warranty? Mine has come off as well. I took some double sided tape and stuck it down real good and it hasn't come off again.
