I did some searching on existing forums, didn't find this specific question answered, or didn't dig deep enough.

The ram comes with that plastic bed liner, my question is, until i save up to buy a spray on bed liner or a different kind, how can i protect my truck from the rubbing and paint scratches everyone keeps telling me will happen. I keep getting the "The plastic bedliners will scratch your paint" on the rails and/or in the bed

I dont want this, but cant dump $400 on a spray on right now...

 

Don't worry about it. When you go to get a spray on they will scuff up your bed as part of prepping it for the spay on liner.

Try not to wait a year but a couple of months will make no difference.

Im curiuous whay everyone seems to want the spray in liners, I have been checking them out as of late and see they look like *** after a few years, not to mention they still dent. I will be going for a drop in under rail liner then toss in a rubber bed mat.

 

The ones you have looked at might have, it depends on how well the dealer sprays it, what quality, how well it's taken care of, and where you live. The top companies have warranties that will respray for free when fading occurs. You might had also seen some early gen ones, the technology has really furthered since then. People are interested because of their looks, they are practically bulletproof, non-slick, and don't cause any of the problems a drop in does... rust, rubbing, warping, etc.

 

The spray in liners are very durable. I have never seen a Line X liner "look like ***" They do fade in the sun but they now have new ones that are guaranteed never to fade.

Additionally they can now color match the spray to your vehicle if you want to spring for that option.

I had it in my last truck and it was perfect for 3 years. No cracking dents, scratches or fading. Plus its really sticky, so when loading my Bike or Quads on the truck my feet were always planted solidly on the bed even in the rain.

Well I have looked at about 20 trucks with the spray in liners and only one looked good and the owner said it was only a week old, no wyou might be right on some of the trucks, they were a little older but I saw some in trucks only a few years old and they looked bad, who knows maybe they used an off brand.

 

John the previous owner of my truck had a plastic drop in over the rails for years and it wasn't a problem. The guys at line-x can spray it however you want and can spray further over the rail then the plastic went so it covers old scratches.
