Well I just installed the "Powergate" #LK170 lock on my non-locking tailgate and it works awesome!!

Bolted right in, didn't need the factory lock and hardware like the one sold on ebay. Its plug and go, ther than finding the (2) tan striped wires that are tucked way up under the dash board it was pretty simple. Took about an hour to do!

It locks and unlocks automaticly with my key fob everytime I lock and un lock my doors.

I have been thinking about installing the same thing. This just convinced me to do it. Do you have any pictures of the process, anything im sure would be helpful to myself and others looking to do it.

 

Sweet. I was considering that as an alternative, but I plan on ordering a new tailgate handle to get the backup camera and that will have a lock in it. Plus, if I get the Undercover cover, then it will lock the tailgate for me.

 

So you didn't need the factory locking tailgate to make that work? How does it lock without that? I was told the LK170 wasn't available yet when I called a few weeks ago.

Way to pop my bubble bounty hunter, jus kidding! I knew it would be cheaper elsewhere if I looked online, it was more of an impulse buy when I bought my tonno cover.

As far as how it works without the factory lock is simple, when the solenoid is engaged theres a rod that inserts onto the handle latches thus blocking it from moving and allowing the tailgate to unlatch.

 

Well dang. Last time I checked this was not available yet. Guess it came out about the same time i installed the manual lock in my truck.

I'm going to have to look into this part later this summer if I get tired of locking and unlocking my tailgate with the key.
