Well guess what the muffler shop guy told me.
So I have a single exhaust and was thinking of putting something like a Cherry Bomb Glass Pack on it, he said be sure to think about it first saying his shop had done 6 2009 Rams and 2 of the guys hated the way the truck sounded when it was only using 4 cylinders.
I said hmm this is the first I have heard of this, saying I hang out in the 2009 Ram Forums, and his reply was how many people are going to say their trucks sound like ****. Oh buy the way he said they all got the Flowmasters.
So my question is, post what mufflers you have and let us know what you think of the sound when its only using 4 cylinders.

That's odd because i love mine. I get many compliments and looks on the way it sounds. I have a video on youtube and posted in a previous thread on this site. Search for 2009 ram flowmaster on youtube or search for my previous thread. I'll make a new video when the wind dies down here, it's broken in and is ridiculously loud...
Bigred, Im sure around town they sound great, he was not knocking Flowmaster they all liked it but two of the guys came back stating it sounded like **** when the truck was in 4 cylinder mode.
How does your sound when in that mode??
By the way I have heard many of the videos on YT with the 2009 Rams going up and down the street and they sound great, but Im curious how they sound when only using half the engine.

I'm getting my single output muffler replaced on thursday. Probably going with a 24" magnaflow, although I'm hoping to hear the 18" on the truck too. Will certainly be posting results.
Did he mention if they left the resonator intact? Mine will be staying there.

i got the flowmaster original 40 si/do on my 09 hemi and i kept the stock pipes and tips. when it goes in to 4 cylinders you can barely hear the muffler. there is no ricer sound. i made my decision to get one after seeing Bigred's video. i was very skeptical as well.
I had never thought about this situation, but I am sure that in 4 cylinder mode, it does not sound as sweet as an eight. I have a sport with the louder exhaust and I do not really hear a sound difference in MDS.

I remember last year reading in the 3rd Gen forum guys were complaining about the MDS with their new exhaust but that was mostly guys who went from the stock single exhaust to dual exhaust. If you do a search, there were quite a few on both sides of the issue.
i have the magnaflow 18" and it sounds alot better then stock and i DID leave the resonators in.
when the truck is in MDS you can barley hear and sound difference, and like stated above it DOESNT sound like a POS honda or anything like that.

Same here, I have the Lone Star edition Ram with the dual exhaust tips out back. I had a magnaflow 18" mufler installed and left the resonators in. On the highway you can barely hear the exhaust when the MDS kicks in. Before with the factory exhaust you could not even tell when the MDS was kicking in (Don't have MDS indicator on EVIC). Now I can distictly tell when the MDS is operating because the exhaust sound is effectivly cut in half. On my truck the exhaust is the loudest inside the cab between 1500 to 2000 RPM. This is the dreaded droning/resonation that carries into the cab. Once you get used to it, it's not to bad. If I had flowmasters, it would probably be significantly louder. I had the same problem with a 96 Impala SS/LT1. I had a custom dual exhaust installed with two flowmaster 40 series mufflers. The resonation was horrible on the highway, so I went back and had the shop install a 12" cherry bomb glasspacks on both sides between the flowmaster and the exhaust tips. This was a poormans resonator fix and it curred the highway droning problem.
