K&Ns CAI is going to dramaticlly increase the pick up in this one..
This weekend I changed my oil at 5,100 just cause, no computer prompting or anything I just wanted it changed so since i was at autozone anyway, I picked up a highflow K&N air filter.
The reaction im getting from it is a crazy pick up in the end, in my expereince with the last 2 CAI's I had the winding up and exploding feeling went away. Just with an oem K&N replacement im not rid of the winding sensation yet instead I get some wild pick up after it winds up alot more noticeable then before just with an air filter.
So I can just imagine what were going to get when its lungs are fully open and allowed to breathe.

however, i think that what most people dont consider, is the cost of the part compared to the effect. people paying 400 dollars for an intake that might free to 1-2hp seems crazy to me.
i think that on some vehicles, this is true, but on other vehicles that have fairly restrictive intake systems, they are more helpful. ive not had a good look at the stock intake setup on an 09, so you could be right. on my stratus, the intake was incredibly restrictive. it pulled all of the engine air through the gap between the front fascia and hood, through a spout that was around 12" wide and about 1/2" tall, literally. then it bent its way around to the filter box, then around the battery, under the strut tower bar, and to the TB...the CAI takes air from under the car, alongside the engine, and into the TB...

I hear that. From the looks of our intake, it is plenty adequate for the stock engine. Maybe if there was a full exhaust, cams, etc, there would be a need for a larger intake.

I have always put K&Ns in my vehicles (drop ins). I have never used a CAI.
As for the K&N saving money by not buying filters, not sure if I agree with that. You should "re-charge/clean" them at about the same frequency you put in a paper filter. The re-charge kit, last time I looked, was about $12. Unless you have a LARGE filter it will do about 3 charges. Plus factor in the cost of the filter itself, usually $50 at a minimum, and the length you plan to own the vehicle. In the end the cost compared to paper is probably about the same.
With that said I still put a K&N in all my vehicles at the first oil change.

17 filters x 13$ a filter = 221$ - Rock Auto Fram price. No shipping.
K&N 50$ + [(17 cleanings/3 per kit) x 12 kit] =118$.
It is cheaper for the long run.
