Default Onyx Bedliners - a quasi-review

I did some research on spray-in bedliners, and on the whole, Line-X seems to be the brand to go with. But I found a few reviews for Onyx bedliners that held them in higher regard than even Line-X.

The nearest Rhino Liner installer to me is about 10 minutes away, the nearest Line-X installer, an hour, and basically the only Onyx installer, 2 hours away. I called the Onyx installer, and he gave me a good price. I was tempted to get the Onyx installed, but I wanted more information about their Unlimited Lifetime Warranty, and about their installation process, before I committed. So I e-mailed the contact on their website, and got an e-mail a few hours later from a man named Marshall, who asked me to supply him with a phone number, and he would call me the next day.

So true to his word, Marshall called me today. He's based in Vermont, and he owns the Onyx products. He licenses to installers. I explained the situation to him, and he explained to me the differences in the products, and the warranties. Onyxs warranty covers everything, regardless of how the bedliner came to get damaged, they will repair it, for free. Other lifetime warranties only cover defective installations, i.e. if you drop something heavy on the bedliner, and crack it, it won't be covered.

So I decided to get the Onyx bedliner.

But I then asked him about the installer in Calverton, NY, the only installer I could reasonably use. Marshall told me that 'Broken Arrow', the installer, is no longer a licensed Onyx installer, and does not use Onyx products any longer. Gary, the owner of Broken Arrow, had a dispute between with Marshall, the specifics of which I didn't get, but I'm guessing it has to do with QC, Onyx is very serious about the QC of their installers. Despite this, Gary told me that he installs Onyx bedliners.

Marshall told me that he used to install Line-X, and he thinks they are a high quality product. He told me that if I was in the New England area, he could help me out with an Onyx bedliner, but since I'm not, I should go with Line-X, which itself is a good product.

So, in summary, Onyx has a good product, a great warranty, great customer service, but they're only available in New England. Also, Gary, the owner of Broken Arrow in Calverton, NY, is a liar, and is passing off some off-brand spray-in bedliner as Onyx.
