Default Can we Paint our Chrome clads??

Being that winter almost here and planning on putting on winters I was thinking of having my 20 chrome clads painted black or even flat black, has anyone done this or better yet can it be done??

Yes, a couple of people have. I think the only color I've seen done though is black. As Doc says though, it's something you'll need a good shop's help with. It's be a royal PITA to do yourself.

It would be sad to waste a set of chrome clads when folks with the alloy wheels are almost beging for them. Personally I'd swap with someone with alloys and paint them instead.

I had mine painted. He sanded them down first. Not sure all the details, I had them done for me. Lots of pics here:http://www.flickr.com/photos/browndo...7618995578953/

^^^^^ That looks killer jdustu!

I am curious how long the painted over chrome will hold up as others have stated that you really can't do that and expect it to last (even with sanding it down), but considering the price of new rims, that had to be a great cost savings. Nicely done!

Thanks!

I guess we will find out(especially with a Michigan winter coming up). The guy who did it said he's done it before with good results, so time will tell. I'm guessing it has to do with how well you can get the primer to adhere to the clad.
