Default Change oil message

Just hit 4200 kms. (2600 miles) when messagec "change oil" appeared on my display screen. The truck is 2 months old and I drive it to work a couple of times a week, hwy. driving. Contacted dealer, they siad I must be driving it hard, I think the dealer has it programmed to come on early. Any suggestions?

Lot's of people on here (myself included) had it turn on at about the same mileage without driving it hard. Just reset the message and change the oil when you want, based on the chart to maintain warranty of course.

Driving short distances will affect it (to the worse, less miles). Strange I know.

Mine came on at 5400, I must drive like a grandpa

Short mileage will cause the computer to figure in a shorter oil change interval. Typically, short trips will not allow the engine to bring the oil up to nominal temperature, thus allowing more condensate build-up in the oil.

My wife's Challenger called for it's first oil change with 1800 on the clock! She is at around 10500 miles now, and the current oil has about 4500 miles on it.

Remember when used car dealers would advertise that a used car had "farm / highway miles" on it? They would ask for a higher price since the motor has been exposed to alot of freeway miles resulting in less overall engine wear.

GMs oil monitoring system from what I read is highly thought of.On SHORT trips it comes on a lot more frequent. It has a percentage of life left and on short trips it drops quickly.Dealer cannot change when it comes on.On mine it came on a 2500 hundred also.I use group three synthetic oil.Which has a max life of around 7500 miles it is not the more expensive group 4 oils that are a extended mileage. Its not expensive.Pennzoil Platinum or the standard Mobil 1 etc.Our trucks require a maximum 6 and 6 oil and filter change.Read the owners manual.

i call scam!! up until recently my truck wasnt getting driven very much. it now has 2700 miles in 6mo. of ownership. i switched the factory oil out at just over 2,000 miles. at about the magic 2,500 mark the change oil light came on. i call extreme bullcrap!!

i switched the factory oil to mobil 1 full synthetic, w/mobil 1 oil filter.

this is in MI. i havent been driving it really hard. havent towed anything. mostly easy starts, highway driving. i honestly probably "floored" it while moving maybe 6-10 times for a couple seconds. thats about it.....

i think the light is pre programmed to go off at certain intervals on most trucks...
