Default TruXedo TonneauTraX vs. Extang ExtangRT bed covers

Both look pretty similar to me, but Extang looks like a better warranty...just found this on Truxedo's website:

"There are no warranties for used products or products that have been repaired, altered, modified, subjected to misuse, negligence, accident or ordinary wear and tear."

I'm a little apprehensive at finding out exactly what constitutes "ordinary" wear and tear, after reading the not-so-HD Bakflip thread. Anyone have any experience with either of these covers? I like the way the Truxedo looks and fits a little better than Extang, but don't want to get screwed if something happens to it.

The TonneauTrax is a soft cover right? I would expect that normal wear and tear would be shrinkage and any kind of rubbing from the bows (assuming they use them). I've never had a whole lot of luck with soft tops lasting more than a couple years, they always seemed to wind up about 1/2" too small after a couple summers.

That being said, I'd email their customer support and get their interpretation of the warranty - if you like it save it so that you can go back later if you have a problem.

I had two Extang RT's on previous trucks and had zero issues. No experience with the other brand though. However, take a look at the Extang Revolution over the RT. It is also a roll tarp design ( great for the quick home depot purchases but a better fit, meaning you could bounce a quarter on it, no leaks, I'm glad I went this route for the Ram this time.

The RT looked to be almost identical with the addition of the cargo hook tie downs...? Or am I missing something between the two?

Yes, it's a soft cover, but both the Truxedo and Extang covers have their own forms of auto-tensioning to keep the cover from shrinking / expanding in heat and cold. Did the ones you had before have some sort of similar system? If so, it doesn't speak well for them heh but if not maybe that'll help?

Another issue is how weatherproof each one is...my Dakota had a hard cover with double seals that made it damn near airtight and completely waterproof from the sides and top, only way anything could get in was through the cargo tie down holes IF I left the caps out. I'd like the same level of weatherproofing, or close to it, but with the roll top so that when I'm moving big stuff or taking my bike somewhere I won't have to remove it completely. The Truxedo advertises its seals to keep the elements out, Extang doesn't mention anything about it. Omission in their advertising, or nonexistant on their cover?

Edit - Extang Revolution lists their "Maxseal" tailgate seal...but still says nothing about the sides / rear of the cover itself. Never had a soft cover before so I'm not too familiar with their mounting rails, but it would seem to me that there's a slight gap on the sides of the bed and at the tail where it meets up to the tailgate.

The last one ones I had were the "ziplock" style with bows on my 02 F150. The bows kept it tight, but eventually the top shrunk too much to get fastened. It was made by Penda, don't think they even make them any more.

When they were new, they were great - stayed fastened and completely waterproof. Much more ridged than the roll up style due to very thick material.
