Default 2010 Sport

I am picking up a 2010 1500 Sport Crew when I get back from Afghanistan in July. I have a few questions about some mods i'd like to make.

Ive already decided on the Retrax retractable bed liner that fits with the RamBox. I plan on blacking out the rest of the truck as well. Is the factory tint actually a decent tint, or is it something that need a little work?

Also, the stock 20" wheels, are they suitable for powder coating? I havent found any wheels I like better for a reasonable price, so I figured why not just powder coat the stocks, and im also going to hit up the front grill with some black. Also, does anyone have a source for blacked out head and tail lights? I like the VTech Ram head tail light covers but can't find them for anything over an '08.

I ordered the Sport Performance hood, does anyone have a picture of what that looks like?

RECON will have better tails in Jan. All their 3rd Gen stuff looks awesome, and from everything I've heard the 4th Gen will be no different.

If it's a 2010 Sport, then the grille will already be black, so you shouldn't need to paint it. That is unless you're looking to have the billet inserts black too. In that case you would need to paint those since RAM doesn't make a black version from the factory like they do of the honeycombs.

I love the RECON lights, good thing I wont be back til January. And yeah, I plane on making the billet inserts black as well, just makes it easier if the frame is already going to be black. I plan on debadging it as well, except for the Rams head on the front and back. War Horse, did you do it yourself or have a shop take them off?

If anyone has any suggestions for simple 5 spoke black wheels, id like to take a look at them. I dont want to get crazy buying wheels, but I guess powder coating the plastic ones isnt to good of an option.

Debadging the truck is fairly simple. All you need is a can of Goop Off, a couple of rags, and a small flat head screw driver. Most places that do tint will also debadge if you want them too. I asked about it when I got my windows tinted and all three places I got tint estimates from wanted about $15 to take all the badges off. In the end though I just saved some money and did it myself since I already had the Goop Off handy.

I like the SRTs, im going to look around some more ive always liked the 5 spoke designs. I found out one of my sergeants is a part owner of a body shop in Tacoma as well, so the whole truck may end up flat black

I love the SRT wheels myself, and some day a set will be on my Sport. While I'd like to do OEM, the price is just a little too rich for my blood on the real things. If you really like the Sport 5 spoke rims, you can get them painted. There's a couple of people on the forums that have painted/powdercoated theirs and I don't think they've had any problems. Of course it's no garage project, every one of them had them professionally done by a body shop.

While I love the black Sports, I can't say I'd be a fan of flat black. I know the flat colors have been "in" for the past couple of years, but I just think that in 3 years it might not be the "in" any longer and you might regret doing the whole truck flat.

Yeah seeing that Grillcraft Gloss Black grill pretty much sold me. I kind of agree on the flat black, an even bigger issue being that if you go flat, everything has to be flat or it looks stupid. So we will see how the wheels turn out. Im getting all in to this when I still have 6 months before ill even pick it up haha.
