Inexpensive Bedlighting
I bought a couple of 4 foot waterproof LED strips from Oznium, http://www.oznium.com/thin-waterproof-ribbon, mounted them under the bedrails and wired them according to the PDF instructions for the mopar kit. The PDF instructions can be found online in the accessories website. The LED strips have an adhesive backing and fit perfectly between the stake pockets. They come in different colors, I went with neutral white and they are extremely bright. The strips cost $50 each and I would have gone with a shorter length to save money had I known they were so bright.
I later added a $5 waterproof switch near the left rear stake pocket, ran a power wire from the battery so I could turn the lights on and off from the rear of the truck. The wiring instructions for the mopar kit have you tapping into the domelight circuit, the bedlights come on whenever the domelights are on(unlocking the truck, door open, etc.)
This could easily be done for under $100 if you choose a shorter length LED strip. The first picture is at night with no flash, the other two were at night with a flash. The no flash pic doesn't do it justice, it is extremely bright.

why not a door switch on the tailgate since the tailgates close tight now and don't jiggle much. Then and get your power from a 12v source maybe in the trailer hitch, just be sure it is not connected to any of the canbus wiring. Maybe the wiring straight to the battery is smart, but then you should use some type of relay. I don't know how you would wire it but I am sure someone here is smart enough for that one. Good luck I am gonna try it when it gets warm out. Next year, spring.
I thought about the door switch on the tailgate. It could easily be mounted there but if you're working/tailgating, etc with the tailgate down for an extended period it could drain the battery. I don't think a relay is needed since LEDs draw little current. I did add an inline fuse though.
I considered tapping into the cargo light circuit but decide to just play it safe and wire it the way mopar designed their system.

I just looked at them again. They don't actually tell you which circuit you're tapping into. However, the very last instruction shows that you're able to activate the light with the key or the dome light switch(darkened in the drawing) to the right of the cargo lamp switch.
like this ? these are way cheaper then the mopar lights and are better lights they come with lifetime replacement also can email more pics if interested or you can look at bluewaterled.com you like them tell mike that todd sent ya !!

the truck kit comes with everything to mount light 2 sided 3m tape flexible led strips push on push off switch all electrical connectors etc . on my truck i ran a seperate power and ground wire from the battery so it wouldnt shut off after the 8-10 min timer on the dodge. i think the kit cost under $100 bucks and has a lifetime warranty as the mopar kit cost over $200 if i remember right. If you have a topper or cap on your truck this is the best lighting solution i have seen for the most light ......
