Default Anyone with scalloped tires???

I've kept 35-40 psi in all the tires. Rotated every 6000. Noticed scalloping was getting bad at 30k mi. Took it to get an alignment and they said it was all within specs. The mechanic's advice was to increase air pressure 5-10 psi.

What causes this?? My tires have been roadforce balanced at each rotation.

Now I have 38k mi and will need to look for different tires. I'd like a more aggressive tread than factory, but as of now the wrangler HPs sound like an off road tire. I can't imagine what a set of duratracs would soung like after 30k miles.

Any thoughts as to a cure or cause for this??

Yeah I had the same problem. Started at about 18,000 for me. Sounded like I was riding on rumble strips all day. Had the vibration in the gas pedal too.
I got some Michelin LTX M/S2 tires and the vibration went away and now it is nice and quiet. I did pump the HPs up to 40 from 35 and noticed the noise wasn't so prevalent. I still had some tread left but winter is coming to the North East so I figured while I could afford them, (Before Christmas) I would get them. On sale at Sears for $227 each. Usually $239.00 around here anyway. I just think Goodyear tires have gone down hill lately....I will probably never buy them again.

Can you post a couple pics of what the LTX MS2 look like on the truck? I want to get them this winter if the HPs are crap in snow/ice.

I don't have any pics right now at work, (Yeah I am supposed to be working!) but they really don't look much different. They are just an all season tire. I got them because I have a Rav4 with dedicated snow tires that I use in storms. So I really didn't need an aggressive tread. But I hear they do fairly well in snow tests. They get an excellent rating in Tire rack, Plus they last like 70,000 miles. Supposedly any ways....!

Ya I am at work too, don't worry about it.

I had the original LTX MS way back when on my Sierra. Best tire I ever owned. Hopefully the MS2 will be even better.

I have the 20" HP goodyears 2nd set, I had the same problem . Discount Tires said to do rotation at 4,000 not 6,000 .
I agree with the Goodyear tire [ good for 1 year] ???

How many miles on the michelins? I'm sure new tires would fix the immediate issue, but in 18000 more miles will the scalloping be back? Is it balancing, rotation, alignment, heavy splices in the tire?? I don't want to spend 1000 on tires and have the same issue in 6 months.

I had a 97 ford f150 that was never aligned and no tire issues in 225,000 miles. Wife had a 97 ford expedition aligned multiple times at multiple places and couldn't keep it from happening in 197,000 miles. Same tires (Goodyear Wrangler RT/S)

I guess if it is something I can correct I want to do so before buying more tires.

i have the copper zeon ltz and i love them paid 178.00 per tire for 275/60/20 at discount tire.definetly more all terrain tread not street tread like the good for a year hps.i have over 35,000 miles on them and still have about 9/32" tread left should easily hit 60-65,000 before they need to be replaced.didnt notice any major road noise change but i also put an 18" magnaflow on around the same time.night and day difference from the goodyears

I would not owrry to much about it. If you are up to 38K on the stock tires you should be happy. Just do not buy the same ones.
