Default winter tires

Its only october 25th and just drove in 6 inches of snow and slush for 3 hours.I guess winter is here in northern Saskatchewan. Was thinking of changing tires for winter and was wondering about chaging size.Maybe an 18 inch or whatever will work.Anybody have a good wheel & rim suggestion?

If you are going to change goto 17s. You will have more wheel and tire choices at that size.... And cheaper!

I live in Alberta and just bought my winter tires ($350.00 each). I decide to use and keep my original 20" wheels for the winter. In the New Year I am purchasing new mags for the summer . But CarGuyOhio is right, smaller wheel size will give you cheaper price on tires. Personally I think the 20" wheel looks better. Your choice.

How did the truck perform in the Snow with the Goodyear's? If you thought they where okay then wait til new year when you get your new wheel's and save your money. However if I lived where you live I would have a set of 17's with an aggressive snow tire on it and a set of 20's with an All-Terrain's on it. JMO. As for tires, there are a lot of opinions out there. I suggest going to two or three of the local tire shop's and talking to there tire tech's. They put tires on our trucks everyday and get feedback on them all the time. They also live and drive in the same condition's as you do and know what the local street's are like. We really don't have a clue what your street's are like and how well they are maintained. After you have talked to the Tech's figure out which style you like the best because IMO most snow tires now a day's are similar in ability it just comes down to how long they will last. Most people on here have only really had one winter if any with there new trucks, so opinions are going to be based off from one year of knowledge. Again the local tire guy will know what tire can handle the weight of these trucks while also knowing what tread pattern is best for your driving condition's. Also see what the Tech's are running on there Trucks. This will tell you if they are simply trying to sell you the most expensive tire or the one they truly beleive in. Research is key here, so look around and ask question's from local guy's.

Will you have a clearance issue on the brakes with 17"?

A lot more choices with 18" for sure!
I bought Winter tires and wheels for my Wife's Mitsu Outlander last fall and it was cheaper to get a tire and wheel package in 16" then to buy 18" winter tires!

I am told you can clear the brakes even with a 16" wheels? All you have to do is try one on. I would like 16", tires are even cheaper.

If you buy tires locally u deserve to be ripped off.
Check out Tirerack.com or any number of US tire sites that ship to canada.
