Default New gears???

I currently have 3.55 gears and was curious how much it would cost to purchase and have dodge install the 4.10 gears. Isn't there also a 4.57 option too? I'm just trying to see who all has upgraded after the fact, how much it cost, and what kind of improvements they saw. thanks peeps.

Last guy in 3rd Gen section attempted, he could find NO Dodge dealer willing to install gears that were not purchased from them.
However, he did get a quote for somewhere around $2800 from them on Mopar gears and install if I remember correctly.

Find you a reputable shop. 4x4 shop near me hear has done about a half dozen gear swaps for members of DF and they charge $600 per axle for ring & pinion, master install kit and labor PLUS a 500 mile break-in check-up and fluid change...

Just changed out the 3.21's to 3.92's in my '09 2wd CC. Had it done at the dealership where I purchased the truck. Cost me a little over $1,700 with a 10% coupon the dealership sent out a few weeks earlier. The change is not overwhelming but noticeable since I went from the highest gear for the 2wd to the lowest. I haven’t towed with the new gears yet but hope to see a big improvement in performance the next time out. I'm also waiting to put some miles on the new gears before I "stand on it" to see the change in the non-towing performance.

Sure was easier doing it when I ordered my QC. 3.92's $535; done!

WOW!!! I just carried a former moderator here to my local 4x4/performance shop and he got 4.56s in his rear (also a 4x2), an Auburn LSD, a set of 2" coil spacers (level kit) in the front - all parts and labor and it was still $300 less than you paid for your gears and install.

I can understand why you'd prefer to go to a dealer when you have warranty considerations, but JESUS, I dunno how these dealers can cry poverty like they do making that kind of markup!!!

I went from 3.55 to 4.10 and an Auburn LSD. The first time I used aftermarket gears, but the crappy installer screwed everything up (long story). I used MOPAR gears on the second install and even with an aftermarket LSD the dealer was willing to do the job, for a price. Instead I found a gear specialist who did the whole rebuild for about $1200 and warrantied the work for 2 years.

Oh, FYI the largest factory gear you can go to in the 1500 is 4.10. To go higher you've got to go the aftermarket route.

yea, I know its a lot to pay but you're talking Atlanta prices here and 4x4 shops open and close every day here. Nobody you can trust for the long term. Not that the dealer is much better in today's economy.

I know what you mean. I lived in south Georgia from '93 till '04 and still have farm property there. The OLD shops that have been around forever and are trustworthy and affordable won't touch these newer Dodge trucks. The newer shops are nothing but very immature kids who I wouldn't trust to change a tire, plus they are charging dealership prices.

I'm lucky enough to have both a VERY reputable Mopar performance shop and a top notch 4x4 shop within 10 miles of my place in Florida. I do almost all my own work, but it's nice having the performance shop close by to pick someone's brain if needed. The 4x4 shop is small, but they have two very good mechanics and to date have done about a half dozen gear installs for guys I've sent there. They charge $600 an axle for the gears/install kit/labor and return check up with fluid change. Tough to beat and not a hint of whine or an issue with one yet.

I was still in Georgia full time when I had my gears done five years ago, so I didn't know about this shop in Florida. I had 4 Wheel Parts do mine, to date the ONLY mod I didn't do myself (too many gear horror stories and I've never done anything on an axle short of a hub bearing rebuild). Gears front & back, install kit, Auburn LSD in the rear for right around $2000 with lifetime warranty on all but the LSD. So far, five years and about 40k miles, no issues to date. 4 Wheel Parts has a reputation for charging high, but I guess if you paid $1700 for rear gears ONLY, 4 Wheel Parts ain't so bad... LOL...

So has anybody put 4.56's in their 4th gen ram 4x4 and where did you get it done. I have 3.55's in my 09 sport 4x4 and with 35" tires 6" lift and a 26ft camper on your *** isnt the greatest setup. I towed nearly 3000kms one way with it last summer and had to stop 3 times due to my tranny overheating (which im getting a new tranny cooler installed 350$ by mr. transmission.) Buddy says its not even comparable to the dodge "HD" tranny cooler. But as for the gearing its just horrible with the 3.55 my tranny is constantly going to overdrive, even if i slap it in 3rd its too hard for everything. So i need the 4.56 basically but has anybody done it and how are they riding so far.
