Default transmission flush

I want to replace all the trans fluid in my 09 ram hemi with amsoil that I already have on hand. I tow my boat with this truck and I've had good luck with amsoil in the past. The dealer said they could get all the old fluid out and replaced with mine by machine. Price is 89. but will be cheaper since I'm bringing my own fluid.I need an HVAC recall done anyway so I was wondering if this process will get all the old fluid out or should I tell them to drop the pan and change the filter too? Truck has 7000 miles. Thanks.

with only 7,000 miles on a 09 , why are you even thinking about a transmission change?
When they do the machine , to suck out all the fliud , I would drop the pan and change the filter . How much diff. is the fluids ?
My 09 has 76,000 on it .

I knew I would get asked this. My last truck lasted me 15 yrs of boat hauling in Texas heat. I used amsoil and never had a trans or motor problem one and it ran like a new truck when I sold it.I change oil every 6 mos. and trans fluid every other year.

There is instructions online, get a PML pan if available, then drop pan & re-install, put new fluid in and disconnect tran cooler line that takes fluid to cooler and add small length of hose to drain pan, start motor and monitor flow and add new fluid, unfortunately you will not see when it changes from dirty to clean fluid, but I would imagine if you dump an additional 3-4 qts it will clean, but then again the costs of add. amsoil would be the cost of the machine, personally wait until it needs to be serviced at 36k.

Normlly I do the same thing.Pump 17 qts of Amsoil in a BG machine and in it goes. Later at much higher mileage I do filters and top off with Amsoil. I started to on this truck just ever got around to it.I will on my 2010 Marquis. I did my diesel under 6k.Swapped entire drivetrain to Amsoil products.

That's actually not a bad price for them supplying the fluid and changing your filter...especially if they now suck out the fluid, lol! I'd let them do it if you are set on changing it. It's really not a bad idea even though it's not time for one. An early change of fluid on anything would catch the break in dust, lol! I say dust but it's actually brass and metal parts caused from initial break in which in your case most likely would be "MICROSCOPIC" (he he), lol! But like they say, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder and if you love your truck like you sound like you do, there's nothing wrong with a little extra precautionary tender loving care!

I don't like additives either, unless it's concerning a worn out engine. But keep in mind, if you didn't change the filter you shouldn't consider it as an oil change other than having the brand of your choice. Maybe they did, I don't know but that price still seems awfully cheap to have done so but a good deal if they did...glad it worked out for you.

I'm a firm believer in a total flushing of the trans fluid. I used to do this every 25k miles on my 99QC but then after buying and towing several 4 wheelers with a large trailer to and from the ranch, I started doing it every year in Oct before hunting season started. I didn't even pay attention to the mileage at that point. I used a place called Bradzoil and they would get the flush/filter/gasket for $99. I just considered it part of the cost of deer hunting. My son still uses that 99QC as his daily driver but he like many his age do not have the money to maint a vehicle like it should be so I'm sure it's back on the "I'll maintain it when breaks schedule" now. I just used what ever fluid was standard, I figure since it was done every year I didn't really need the fancy expensive stuff. I don't tow as much now since all but one of my 4 wheelers were stolen along with the big trailer so I will probably just stick to the standard sevice interval now but will always have it flushed instead of just dropping the pan and doing the filter only. Jeff.
