Installing an Amp
Good Evening,
I am thinking about installing an amp in my truck, but I really don't know how to do it. I have the new RBZ radio. I installed Polk and Kenwood speakers and they sound a lot better than the factory ones, but I think they need more power. Can anyone give me directions on how to complete the install? Below is a list of parts that crutchfield said I would need to complete the project.
Sound Ordnance M4075 75W x 4 Car Amplifier
EFX Amplifier Wiring Kit 8-gauge w/Patch Cord
Scosche SLC4 Speaker to RCA Four Channel Line output converter
EFX 17-ft. Stereo RCA Patch Cable
Arista 18-5653 50-ft. Spool 16 AWG Speaker Wire

Hi,
Yes you do need all those items. I installed a amp under my seat(drivers ). The process is that you need to remove the bezel from the front dash, cut the speaker wires and install the speaker level converter to the wires from the stereo. run at all 1 time the rca and the new speaker wire to the amp. Connect the new speaker wire to the original speaker wire that you cut going to the speakers. Rca's connect to the amp and the speaker level converter. You also will need to run the positive wire from the amp to the battery, don't forget to install a fuse in line. The next step is to run a the remote wire from the amp to the fuse block. Lastly ground the amp to the floor board. Grind the are clean before attaching the ground so you get a good ground. Try shopping http://www.sonicelectronix.com they are less expensive then Crutchfield. I have shopped both, both provide good service.

How long did all of this take? Did you put your amp under the seat? Did you notice a huge difference in sound? So you cut the speaker wires from the radio and install them to the converter? Then you connect the RCA's and new speaker wire to the amp? Run the RCA's to the converter and the new speaker wire to the speaker wire that was cut? Then run the power wire to the battery and ground the amp? Sound right? Where do I run the wire that tells the amp when to turn on? I know it is a wire from the radio, but not sure which one it is. Thanks for all the help.
Daniel,
It is called the remote on/off wire. I went from the amp to the fuse box, not the stereo. I just picked and accessory fuse. Yes I did mount the amp under my seat, with the controls facing my door so I can adjust as needed. The total install time was about 1 1/2 hrs. The biggest improvement to me was adding a sub... I chose to go with Boston Acoustics speaker 6.5" in all 4 doors and 3.5's in the dash, even with the amp all I got was a lot of high's and mids. I added another JL Audio amp and JL Audio sub... Wow the system Rocks!!!!! Becareful removeing the bezel from the front dash... Do you have a center console?

Installed a Boston Acoustics 4 channel sub, wow did my speakers come alive. The bass from my rear Kenwood 6X9's shakes the doors. It did take me about 3 hours to install it correctly. I took my time and learned a lot. This was my first time ever installing an amp. My next project is installing the mopar back up camera.
did any of you guys rewire all the speakers? i was told that you should rewire to get the best sound and none of the interference. i am thinking about doing it myself, but i dont have the time to rewire everything.

Can't answer a lot of your questions, since I haven't actually put anything aftermarket in a 4th gen, but I have custom-built sub boxes and amp boards for a little Mazda pickup and a 2nd gen Ram, among others, and I can definitely tell you - if you use the stuff you're talking about, then it will make a HUGE difference in sound quality. Like night and day.
