Question Dodge OEM Tubular Running Board End Cap Issue?

I had a very strange occurrence happen today and was wondering if its happened to anyone else here. After my vehicle had been sitting for two days in front of my home, I noticed that one of the black plastic end caps on the right side of my stock tubular running boards was missing. It stood out almost right as I approached my truck. The funny thing is that it still had the stock screw fully in place and had no broken plastic anywhere. I can't figure out what or why it is no longer there. I'm just not sure when I noticed it was there, last. No reason for it to be missing, never hit anything or been anywhere long enough for someone to have stolen it. Haven't pissed anyone off in quite a while and figured if it was vandalism, it would have been much, much worse. I "figured" it may have been cracked since I bought the truck and it fell off in my travels, "maybe". Something similar to this has happened to me when the first month I had it, the rubber molding on the inside of the bed where it meets the cab, just fell off while I was on the interstate. This was due to Dodge not using any glue to secure it in place. Luckily I was able to remove the other one before it came off too. Just another of Dodge's brilliant ideas. Any thoughts?

Simple - take the truck back to the dealer and have them fix it. Not sure why you'd do anything else with a brand new truck...

Thumbs down Not Covered.

A black plastic end cap is in no way covered by the dealership. It is something that you the owner are responsible to pay for to replace, out of pocket, at the full price. Go to your dealer and tell them you lost one and need another and see what they say. They didn't even want to give me the two measly white plastic push in anchors, for securing the license plate for the front bumper on the actual day I bought the truck. After searching on the internet for the boards themselves, I'm not even sure if the caps are even available separately. Besides, I can't prove how it came off in the first place.

We were at my friends trailer camping last summer and my wife rubbed a tree while parking the truck. It popped the cap off and thank god that was the only thing that was damaged. I didn't notice until we got home and she "forgot" to mention it. I went to the dealer and bought a 2 pack replacement for about $20.

My wife lost 3 on the same step and the dealer replaced them N/C. She then lost a 4th and the dealer replaced the whole step under warranty and all has been fine for a year now.

I don't have a wife or kids to blame for my missing tools, keys and road rash anymore.

But I do take donuts and tamales, etc to the dealership service writers and techs when I get my oil changed.

I can get any old odd ball replacement part I want. I needed a replacement wheel that challenged a curb (my wife didn't do it) and they sold me one for $50 off a trade in truck that was being wholesaled out.

Still working on the cashier girl for fleshy parts though .

Unhappy I'll Try.

I will call my dealership tomorrow and see what they say but I'm not holding my breath. If I have to, I will go and buy one from Dodge. Patsfan, do you have the Dodge part number off the package your end caps came in? That would help me greatly in telling them exactly what I need.

You're mistaken. Regardless of what part it is, if it was on your truck when you bought it it's covered under your 3 year 36k warranty. With all due respect, if you accept anything less from your dealer you deserve to have to purchase parts. I have gone to my dealer for minor things, and they cover them no questions asked.

I probably threw out the box but may have the receipt lying around. I'll try and dig it up. I didn't buy the boards from the dealer but from a friend of mine with an 09 Sport so the warranty was not an option. But I do remember the service guy say that they only have a year warranty. For the cost I didn't raise a fuss and didn't want to drive around with the board collecting rocks and dirt.
