Default People generally happy with the 4th generation

For reasons that have more to do with seat ergonomics, I am thinking about buying a 2010 2500 4x4 diesel. (Well, that is why I am focused on 2010, obviously not the only reason I would buy the truck.) Have people generally been happy with the 4th generation diesel trucks?

Welcome to the forum! I don't have a diesel so I can't comment, but I will say this - opinions here are varied and plentiful!

Actually, they made some changes in 2010 which I like. But I meant, are people generally happy with the trucks?

i love the 5.9 cummins engines. my 04.5 3500 was "run over by food store delivery truck" don't ask, i we nt to replace it with and came close to buying 2010 left over for a great price. the reworked cummins is just not for me. to much pollution stuff and in nj a delete kit is not going to happen. since i never needed a diesel, i could no longer justify the increased cost of the engine, cost of fuel,"50 cents more than reg." along with greatly reduced mpg. also many people have reported some soot problems. if however, you actually need the towing power of a diesel, cummins is the only way to go. fords engine too new and you need to add urea. duramax also needs urea and doesn't have a great rep. good luck

The seat is the only disappointment for me after 21,000 miles. A couple of things I wish I would have changed on the truck:

3.92 rear end (instead of the 3.55)
Rambox

I cant comment on the DSl. but going from a 2004 to a 2010 is a big difference
in overall feel and comfort of the truck. i am verry happy with mine and 21mpg
on trips is a big plus when your driving a truck. I wanted a dsl also but there
are two many issues with them. i wish they would get it figured out!

We traded a 1999 2500 4X4 Sport w/5.9 V8 and leather seats in on our 2010 1500 Laramie 4X4 5.7 Hemi with leather seats and can truthfully say we don't miss our old truck. The new one has a lot more power, more comfortable, just better, more refined everything. The only thing we didn't like about the new one is the angle of the headrests on the front seats (pushed our heads too far forward for our tastes), so I removed both headrests and turned them around 180 degrees and reinstalled them. Now they are as comfortable as our other vehicles' headrests. Have never had a diesel so can't comment other than they seem to be very reliable and have tons of torque. The old truck had a 4.10 LSD and the new one has 3.92 LSD and there is not a lot of difference I can tell yet between the 2 axles; the new one has fulltime 4WD which I really like - the old one really needed it especially in the rain.

my only complaints about my 2010 2500 hemi are

1) the suspension is stiff as hell, really dissappointed. you feel every single bump in the road, and good bumps will shake the whole truck. its a rough ride. i got a 2" lift with all new springs that will go on as soon as I can find some upgrade tie rod ends.

2) ticking of the rockers

I have yet to load the truck up like i used to do with my 1500, but I have no doubts the truck will handle it. the interior is cozy as heck too. sport buck seats are pretty nice for a truck, i have the center console which is great as I am a contractor, and theres compartments for everything. my 2500 even has 2 smaller compartments built into the rear floor.

3) it hardly sits higher than my fathers 2008 1500, and new f150s sit just as high and the f250s tower on me

I agree with this too; did you have to do anything special to turn the head rests around? I tried that when I bought the truck, but it wouldn't fit.
