I ordered a chrome gas cap for my 2011 ram 1500 online and the instructions simply state remove 2 screws holding on existing cap and reuse to install the new cap. The screws did not want to go in easily and upon closer inspection noticed the holes were not threaded. I returned that cap and went to my local Dodge dealer to buy one. The one they had there also had no threads and they ordered another and still no threads. The service guy called dodge about it and was told thats the way it is supposed to be. I do not see how a a regular screw (not self tapper) is going to hold the steel bracket of the gas cap. I dont want to find out by stripping it. Anyone ever install one of these and were the holes threaded of the new chrome gas cap??
If you are leary about it - I'll give ya twenty bucks for it! LOL
I was leary since truck is brand new and did not want to strip a screw and be driving around with no cover.lol thanks for the replies did not think it was self tapper but will try it tonight...
I guess it was the instructions with just pics no words , but came home and drove the screws right in, no problem , too many stripped srews over the years makes you think twice now. thanks again, cap looks awesome
I bought an aftermarket one and it went right on, but it didn't use the threads the OEM one did. It came with two bolts attached, and you use two small washers and nuts to secure it. Took all of 5 minutes to install.
