Default Chrome Gas Cap

I ordered a chrome gas cap for my 2011 ram 1500 online and the instructions simply state remove 2 screws holding on existing cap and reuse to install the new cap. The screws did not want to go in easily and upon closer inspection noticed the holes were not threaded. I returned that cap and went to my local Dodge dealer to buy one. The one they had there also had no threads and they ordered another and still no threads. The service guy called dodge about it and was told thats the way it is supposed to be. I do not see how a a regular screw (not self tapper) is going to hold the steel bracket of the gas cap. I dont want to find out by stripping it. Anyone ever install one of these and were the holes threaded of the new chrome gas cap??

I got mine through Mopar and it was on in less than 5 min. No threads, but the screws go right through.

They are self-tapping screws.

They might just be thinking that someone who needs instructions to install a gas cap might not be able to read.

I bought an aftermarket one and it went right on, but it didn't use the threads the OEM one did. It came with two bolts attached, and you use two small washers and nuts to secure it. Took all of 5 minutes to install.

Yeah, but they're doing it for all sorts of instructions these days, sometimes fairly complex things.
