Default Axle Rust... Normal???

Hey guys,

I got my ram in August of 2010. It's 7 months old. I was walking by it yesterday and I noticed there is ALOT of rust on the rear axle all underneath it along with the rims by the break pads.

Is that normal to have rust that early? I even undercoated it prior to the start of the winter. I will take pics of it today to show you, but I am a little ticked.

I hand painted mine when I got it in 09, still clean. If you do not the axle will rust in northern states. The factory paint on the axle is no good.

Actually I think they are rusty by the time they get shipped to dealership. Doesn't look great but it certainly won't rust through in your lifetime. My new Mustang GT was same way.

What kind of paint did you use?

Mine was rusting when I picked it up from the dealer. I got it undercoated and will touch up every year.

Oils sprayed 2 years ago still looking greasy and dirty even the trailer hitch which usually rusts a month after you get it.

I agree, i doubt it will actually harm anything in the life of the vehicle, but definately looks better to have everything painted up.

Rust-Oleum. Not sure on the spelling there.
