I have been kicking around the idea of doing this......has anyone done this....is it simply a bolt-on application? I have done some research and havent really found a lot......any help or ideas would be most appreciated!
I have the Mopar CAI installed and a superchips tuner on my 09 5.7 hemi...

 

I have a ported 85mm one on my truck simply because the research i found showed that a 90mm one would be overkill and require a tune and I didnt have a programer at that time. I noticed a bit of a difference when I changed it but nothing serious but hey every little mod adds up. It was super easy to swap them out and took me all of about 20 minutes.

 

BBK makes both an 85 and 90 mm they say no new tuning is required, complete bolt on plug and play, alreay has electrionics in it. bot they are both well over 400.00 bucks. for an added 12-15 HP.

Quick bolt-on, and truck does seem to idle smoother.

 

From what I understand, the 90mm is for serious modded engines. If all you have is a CAI and a tuner, I would stick with the 85mm. $400 seems a little high to me. I've seen them for around $200-$250. It's completly plug and play. Just remove the old one and install the new one. That easy.

 

From the searching I've done the ones for around 200 are for older 2nd and 3rd gen Hemi, not 4th generation. If you can find one for 200 I'd like to know where. 450.00 may not be bad considering shophemi.com has a complete plug and play 90 mm throttle body that is over $1000.

I'm toying with the idea of getting one myself. I'll probly go with an 85mm.

 

People pay that for a new air intake and get maybe 5hp.

There's about 100 things I would do first before going this route. Based on performance 101, the gains you would see with this mod on an otherwise stock motor would be negligible or non-existent. Unless you plan on upgrading everything else in the airflow department (heads, headers, exhaust, etc) the extra air is gonna be bottle-necked somewhere along the line.

FWIW, I have a mid-10 sec Buick GN that still has the stock TB, doghouse, and intake manifold... The gains from upgrading these parts were not worth the hassle, IMO...

thanks......i just wonderd if anyone has done this swap and if so were the results noticable? maybe i'll just save lots ad lots of pennies and dollars and get a SC.....
