I am thinking about getting a tonneau. I have managed to own several trucks but never had one.

I am not looking for anything fancy. We do a lot highway driving in the summer. It be nice not to have to worry about items blowing out of the back.

It looks like the basic models are 150 to 200 with shipping.

Are snaps okay?
Will they work with the plastic bedrail covers?

I got a roll up Truxedo cover from Zigs Discount Auto on eBay for around $250 with shipping. They sell ones that are say Truxedo in the auction and then they have ones that are just "roll up covers" with no name. In the manufacturer section they say "$ too low to show."

Based on the description and feedback I ordered one about a year ago. When I received it I was pleasantly surprised to find out it was a Truxedo and it works great. It has velcro down the sides and locking tabs on the back that you can't open without opening the tailgate.

The only thing that was an issue was that I had to add weatherstripping accross the front of the box because of the curve. I was getting a little water in when it rained hard. I don't get any water in now when it rains. Overall I'm thrilled. It looks like they upped the price since a year ago to $249 + $40 shipping. Not sure if that's more than you were looking to spend, but it might be worth taking a look at.

I had a snap cover on my last truck, and it was ok. It did have a couple of issues though, the biggest being the rail that went accross the tailgate. It wasn't a strong design, and at highway speeds the wind would stretch the cover and eventually it bowed out the tailgate rail to where it wouldn't seal anymore.

My only other complaint was how hard it was to snap up when it got cold and tight. I guess now that I think about it, I wasn't too thrilled about the covered wagon (bows showing through) look.

None of these were real concerns though, considering the price was only a little over $200 cdn.

Very happy with the Extang trifold. More in the $600 range but gives you a hard top and locked storage.

I jsut picked up a Truxedo Low Pro QT for my '10 Laramie. Truxedo was the only one to offer a model which would work with my factory bed rails. It was very easy to install and works great. I would definitely reccommend it. Mopar only offers models that work without bed rails.

I realize I'm not answering the question you asked, really, but I'm way happy with my Roll-n-Lock. It's a lot more $$, but I sucked it up/bit the bullet/whatever.

I've had snap-on covers (many years ago, before electricity) and was never happy with the amount of sag/bow etc. from wind at highway speeds, rain, hot days, etc. I see some of the roll-up velcro/snap covers seem to have addressed this with their little pre-tension devices, so I'm sure they've improved since my experience.
