Angry Inside vent dust

I have a white dust coming out of my vents. I was told that it is outside dust, but I know the difference. It spits out for the first 10 seconds or so (just enough to get my inside white) and after that...good. Does anyone have a similar problem? I kind of getting sick of dusting all the time...LOL Is there a vent / AC filter I can change?

I have the exact same problem on mine. I even did the cabin filter mod to try get rid of the dust but its still there. I have no clue where it comes from. I even ran the HVAC in the recirc mode for a couple of weeks to see if it would reduce the dust, but no luck.

FYI- FWIW

Not related to the Dust, but my service guy gave me a great suggestion so i wanted to share it here

After about a year or so, between your cars AC and Heating system, when you switch from re-circulate to fresh air (The button) you might start to smell an odor. This is from bacteria that develops inside your system. It has to do with the internals getting moisture from the temp changes. You can take it to your dealership and spend about $175 *estimate* for a refresh/fogger injection where i think they put anti bacteria into your entire system to rid the smell..

OR

you can get a can of NON scented Lysol spray, turn the AC on (Don't select the re-circulate button) and spray up front by the plastic panel where the wipers rest. The spray should get sucked into your AC system and after about maybe 1-2 minutes of a full spray, you can go back into the truck and see if you notice the smell when cycling from the recirculate to the fresh intake button..

I was told that the smell comes from using the recirc too much and not allowing fresh air in to dry it or whatever it does. We used to have that smell because I was always putting it on recirc. Now I don't drive much my wife nevers puts it on recirc and we don't have the smell. I gladly wait a few minutes longer for it to cool off and not have that musty smell.

The Dreaded White Dust From The Vents:

Moisture/water in the Heating/AC system housing is corroding the aluminum evaporator, and thats where the white dust is coming from. Putting it on RECIRC or FRESH AIR will never fix the actual problem. Check the A/C drain, it might not be draining off the condensation properly and holding water and rotting the evaporator within the heating system housing. As it dries out, the corrosion dust blows out thru your vents.

Also, if you have a 3rd brake light leaking, (and or door seals) you`ll have ALOT of moisture inside the cab of your truck. The A/C system is trying to keep up with removing moisture within the cab and traps alot of it within the heating system. This isnt helping the evaporator at all, by having all this water/moisture inside the cab all the time. The 4th gen heat-a/c system is a very poor design. And like another person said in here, he`s exactly right, the heater air filter mod will NOT fix the problem either.

One thing that may help, try to drive often as possible with the the windows open to help dry out your truck from time to time. This seemed to help solve some of the problem for me.

Do your homework before you spray...!!!

Be VERY careful what you`re spraying into the heating system.
Some chemicals in the sprays may corrode the aluminum evaporator even faster.
I`m not sure, BUT, BG products may still make a bacteria eliminator for A/C systems thats safe for automotive use.
Maybe check with a A/C installer specialist, they may be able to give you some info where to get a good product to rid the smell.

Here`s a product that might be worth looking at: http://www.superiorcarcare.net/w893540.html
I`ve used this product when i was a wrench in dealerships. They would charge $200 just to spray this in your A/C system.
Why pay all that money to a dealer and waste time trying to squedule an appointment there when you can do this yourself.

John, thats absolutely not a problem, we`re all here on the forums to learn from others as well as teach others by what some have seen and gone thru. Since i`ve been on these forums, i`ve learned alot for myself too..! I`m so glad ther are places we can turn to for help when we really need it. Most dealerships are clueless these days, and very much a waste of time asking for their help. I wont say they`re ALL bad, but ther are MORE bad ones than good ones.

Example: I`ve been waiting for more than 6 or 7 months to hear back about the headliner in my truck, 3rd brl/light leaked, ruined my headliner. Been to the dealer 3 times, each time, a NEW warranty person is working there, but still no answer when my truck will be fixed. Sorry to go off topic here, just saying about dealer worthyness isnt worth what it use to be.

Man, only 18000kms on my truck and the evaporator core is already corroding? That's really disappointing. A/C drain is not plugged either.
