2011 ram sport 2nd & 3rd gear
hello All,
Why are the gear ratios so close from 2nd gear to 3rd gear especially if you have it floored and you are manualy upshifting. Anyone else notice this. There no big seperation between the two gears. Almost the same in a way. I have a 2011 CC Sport with the hemi and 3.92 rear. I think this is just the way dodge sets up the gearing in this truck for towing.

When in ERS you are using 2 Prime (Normally only used for downshifts) as well.
The truck has 6 forward gear ratios available:
1-3.00, 2-1.67, 2P-1.50, 3-1.00, 4-0.75, 5-0.67
During acceleration in auto the truck goes:
1-3.00, 2-1.67, 3-1.00, 4-0.75, 5-0.67
In ERS:
1-3.00, 2-1.67, 3-1.50, 4-1.00, 5.-0.75
You cannot access top gear (double overdrive) when in ERS.

Most all four speed automatics of any manufacture 2nd gear is just barely used for less then a second. It holds 2nd gear a bit longer floored. But normal driving it just passes through 2nd to 3rd. Been that way for two decades. With 5 and 6 speed automatics its not any different. tow/haul holds second longer for towing. Then again not unique to Dodge.
