Default Camshaft time!!! Help me out!

So I am ready to drop a cam in the truck next month. Anyone on the site
have any opinions in which one I should choose. I know there are several out there right now. Any input would be nice!

The truck- 2009 Ram 1500 Hemi V8 Crew Cab

Thank you

Do you plan on disabling your MDS completely?

Then you may want to check into a Comp Cam 260. I know of several LX owners running a 260 with MDS enabled that are happy with the gains they've acquired, plus those are pre-eagle setup gains. I'd personally run a 268 with MDS disabled. The 268 XFI CC in early model Hemi Rams is pretty nasty, and I'm running the 268 XFI in my Charger. Good luck with which ever direction you go, well worth the mod!

Do you know how the lope is on the 260? I am really looking for the sound along with the gain.
I am also confused with the mds. why did you have to disable it with the 268?
Thank you for the information. I really do appreciate it.

MDS hardware is a little more dainty than standard hardware... it cannot stand up to as much lift or as high an rpm. If you do not swap it out you are limited to cams designed to work within its limitations...

I had a 09 pontiac with an L76 which is as similar a motor as you can buy to a hemi in a GM (v8 pushrod, cylinder deactivation). It picked up around 130 hp at the wheels with cam and bolt ons with the cylinder deactivation removed. Similar setups with a cylinder deactivation still present and therefore a milder cam were picking up in the 50 HP range.

Alot depends on what you want the truck to do. Its always a give & take situation. You`ll give up this just to get that, kind of scenerio.
If all you just want is the loopie idle, the 268 will give you that, but i dont think thats a wise choice of a camshaft without adding other componets to make that particular cam work well. And dont expect any MPG after installin a big cam either. If this truck is still going to be a daily driver, do ALOT of homework, camming up an engine can wreak havic on your wallet. But if you got the bucks to blow, do it right...! Talk to some cam specialist`s, the people that actually grind the cams, they `ll know pretty much what you need after you tell them what you wanna do. Problems with trying to find info on the forums, is everybody`s an expert on their own vehicle. Save yourself from the greif, talk to the cam grinders, they KNOW what they`re talkin about.

Will do thank you! I talked to a guy over at inertia motorsports. They are designing some new billet cams right now. $600 they are going to be. I am looking around right now, but I will take your advise and talk to someone before I do something I regret.

Another good reference would be to contact Brian from Hennessy Tuning. He's a huge Mopar guy and knows what a realistic setup would be with what you're looking for. $600 (no offense) is a lot of money to spend on a cam, specialty or not.

You probably spoke with Stu, he's a good guy to a too. I debated purchasing the Spartan Cam from Interia, but when compared to numbers I've seen on dyno's I was happy with the purchase I made.

That is the same thought I also got too. When you have comp cam's and others around $350 range. I spoke with hennessy performance before. They shot me down about a cam, but I will try to give them another shot about advise. If you wouldn't mind can you shoot me a pm or let me know what the set up you went with? Also did you do the install yourself?

Thank you
