Default 2012 longhorn payload?

hey i'm looking at upgrading/downgrading from my 07 2500 hemi to a 1500 long horn but am not having much luck in finding the payload of the long horn. one site showed 1100lbs is this right? does anyone know if you can get the long horn with max trailer tow package, i'm not concerned about the trailer weight but the actual payload of the truck. any info would be great

wow...I would think that the longhorn would be one of the better 1500s for payload...seems the sport is the best..not even the laramie has that. Are they just not equipped with the same towing packages?

What I find to be totally ridiculous is that a 2500 Hemi's payload is rated at over 500 pounds GREATER than the same truck with a CTD in it???

Why is that ridiculous? The CTD probably weighs 500lbs more than the Hemi... it is not like they built a new chasis for the CTD. They both use the same basic equipment have the same basic GVWR but the cummins weighs more empty so has a lower payload capacity (GVWR-curb weight = payload capacity)

thanks for the posts, seems like it is true that the longhorn may not be available with the max trailer tow package. too bad

If you look at Ford or GMC specs, payload capacity is slightly higher on diesels than gassers.

The biggest difference here though is that Dodge rates the Ram to be able to tow 14,400 lbs. with a Hemi and 15,500 with a CTD, only an 1100 lb. difference. A Ford F250 by contrast is rated to tow 15,400 lbs with the 6.2 gas engine and 22,700 lbs. with a 6.7 PowerStroke which is a 7200 lb difference. Much more believable.

I think rating a Hemi at 14,400 lbs. is a joke, personally. I have the engine and have no complaints but because it makes too much of it's power too high in the rpm band, it's not an ideal tow/haul engine...

There's some numbers been thrown out that are wrong. Check the Ram website. It's mostly to do with gearing and tire size.

so from what i am seeing i'd be better off with a 2011 vs a 2012 1500. kinda sucks you can't get the higher payload in the long horn or even laramie according to the link

The ~1100 pounds is payload, not tow rating. The link above shows that the Longhorn's towing capacity is within a few hundred pounds of the max in the 1500's range, probably due to the overall weight of the truck being higher due to some options. This seems pretty decent and normal. It looks pretty much the same as the 2011s, so I'm not sure why you think it is so bad.
