Default Gas Tank Replacement

I have a 2011 Ram 1500 Crew that was supposed to come with a 121L tank, but had the 98L on delivery. To make a long story short, the dealer ended up replacing the tank from another truck on the lot. The problem is that the mileage per tank is about the same. Does the computer need to be re-programmed for the larger tank?

i have the larger 32 tank, and based on the low fuel light and distance to empty, i will only usually add 26-27 gallons. there was a lot of threads about this a year ago or so, seems a common problem, it doesnt read well when it gets low. i have driven mine well beyond the "empty" warning and put a max of 30 gallons in. pretty annoying to me since it stops even telling you miles to empty at 25 and just says low fuel, yet i know i can drive almost another 100 miles or so if cruising highway.

Mine, in the big tank, is MUCH more accurate than that,,,,,,, I actually find it within about a gallon (US) on the gauge, and DTE.

If mine says 50 DTE, I can usually put in about 32 gallons, and the gauge is well below 1/4, and the low fuel light has been on for about 15-20 miles.

That I don't know. I would assume that if it was taken from another truck that they wouldn't mess with removing the tank modules from the tanks.
I was thinking that the computer would have to know how much fuel was in the tank to calculate DTE properly. I haven't been able to run the tank dry yet to see how far under empty it would go but I might try that before I fill up.

Ah ok that makes sense to me. I guess that if they swapped my old module to the new tank it answeres my questions. Man I feel sorry for the guy who bought the truck with my smaller tank in it because he probably got stranded somewhere with 1/4 tank showing on the gauge!

I don't know if that would be the case or not. You'd think as you mentioned they just swapped the whole deal and plugged the tank up. But I would not think it would be a 'computer' thing. You need to investigate further. A tech where it was done can call tech assistance and ask the engineers.
