Quad vs Crew?
I bought a 2010 RAM 1500 Quad Cab for my son a couple of years ago. We like it so much, I'm close to buying a 2012 4-door for myself. I know the disadvantage of the Quad Cab is rear legroom. The Crew Cab has a shorter bed. Is the shorter bed a significant disadvantage? What are some other pros and cons of the Quad and Crew Cabs? Thanks in advance your feedback and recommendations.
You really need to determine how you will use your truck, a freight hauler or a people mover, which will you use it for more.
I haul more people than freight so I got the Crew Cab. I personally have not found the short bed a great inconvenience, you can get the bed extender which will net you about 24 more inches when you need some extra space. If you are hauling plywood or 2x4's you will still need to drop the tailgate with both the quad and CC.

Thanks for the feedback. I thought there would be a weight pentalty but was surprised that the gross weight of the Crew Cab is slightly less than the Quad. There also seems to be more 2012 Crew Cabs in inventory around the DFW area.
I bought quad, mainly because it's usually just me and the wife now, I keep the rear seat folded up. We took the truck on long trips a few times, it's great just putting your luggage on the flat floor with the seat folded up. I did not want the shorter bed in case I wanted to haul one of my motorcycles. That little bit of length makes a difference when it comes to big bikes like Harleys.
I previously had two QuadCabs and if you only occasionally had backseat passengers they were okay, or if the passengers were under 6 ft. tall.
But my kids are growing and will likely get to my height, so CrewCab all the way. I don't miss the slightly longer box as anything over a certain size gets pulled in a trailer anyway.

As mentioned above, it would really depend what you are seeking to use this vehicle for. The Quad cab with a longer box length at 6'4" or the Crew cab with a bit of a shorter box at 5'7" but more room in the cab for a bit more comfort for your passengers. Other then that, all of the same options are available for either selection.
I don't know this for a fact, but I suspect crew cabs will have better resale value than quads.
I'd say that unless you have something specific you intend to haul, like an ATV, that would fit better in the 9" longer bed of the quad cab with the tailgate up then go for the crew cab. I've hauled a lot of stuff in the back of my crew and I don't think there's ever been a time when 9" more would have made the difference in choosing bed vs. trailer. Heck, my ProRMK mountain sled rides back there decently and it is almost 11 feet long. The extra room in the back seat is soooooo nice. I've had various friends with Fords and Chevy's that are jealous that the RAM has better rear seat room than their crew cabs.

When we were looking at trucks in 2010, the Quad Cab pretty much settled our choice of which company to go with. The QC has ample back seat room for the four times a year we have anyone back there and the truck still has a decent sized box. We often fill the box with stuff for our cottage and really appreciate being able to load groceries into the back seat without having to open the front doors as you would with an extended cab with suicide doors.
On top of that, I still think Dodge has the best looking truck of those presently being made (and the Fords the ugliest even though I used to own one).
As far as resale value goes, vehicles are the WORST investment short of hanging out at the casino.
But you already knew that.
