Belt or Pulley Noise and Dealer Failure
So I was taking a 3000 Mile Road trip took the truck in for oil change and inspection to make sure I was good told the dealer that I was hearing a squeak from something in the belt and asked to check out since I have life time maxcare. I was told they could not hear any noise and maybe the belt was getting worn. So I replaced the belt and took my trip well about 300 miles in squeak started getting louder and proceeded for the entire trip and I was just waiting for something to fail to me using a Auto Stethoscope sounded like the alternator pulley. So return take the truck in the tech says oh its the belt I said belt is 1 week old with 3000 miles. The response is oh then it is the tensioner ok so replace it. Well tensioner is replaced and looked like every other pulley looks like it has been soaked in lubricant. Well 1 week later squeak back go back to dealer same tech comes out and tells me oh its the belt. I said are you serious he informes me that the bad tensioner must have worn my new belt and now that was bad buy another belt and once again one week and squeak seems to be returning slightly. For the hell of it I replaced the idler pulley. So this is one of the many issues I have with my dealer and others in the area I bought a new truck and bought a lifetime warranty so I don't need to deal with this and it is *******ly impossible to get a dealer to provide actual service. I love the truck but I hate Chrysler Dealers! I tried to go to another dealer that I bought my wife's magnum from but could not meet the price on my truck because my blower fan was bad in the truck and I was by them so I stopped in 3 service guys sitting in the service area and asked could someone come out and take a look at the truck as it was fairly noticeable so they could order the fan since they did not have one. I was asked to schedule an appointment because no one could look at it I said really will take one minute I didn't have a lot of time and wanted to simply make sure the part was there before I left the truck. The service manger then said "did you buy the truck here" I said no I bought it at XXXXXX but bought my Magnum here. He then informed me he could not help me unless I made an appointment because I was a "transient customer" I then informed him as an authorized Chrysler dealer he needed to provide service and he said I would need to leave the truck for them to evaluate it then schedule to have the fan installed once it arrived so essentially no truck for 2 days for a 10 min job to replace the blower fan which I ended up doing myself. Sorry for the long Post but these guys are driving me crazy making me regret I ever purchased this truck and the warranty! If anyone has any advice on the belt or pulley noise would appreciate it.
ok remove the belt and then one at a time turn each pully by hand the one that is bad will fell slightly ruff when u turn it u might have to put a bit of pressure on it to feel it but i bet theres one bad one
I had the same thing, the dealer listened ,and after i told them it was the top pulley , they replaced the P/S pump, pulley and belt anyway, I have since changed out 10 of these for my buddies, it turns out on ours it was the pulley facing the engine at the top,#2 in the picture, it sounds just like the p/s pump, but it was not, the pulley is 15.00 at Napa, with the belt tool takes about 10 minutes, loosen the bolt with the tool , release the tension remove the pulley and reverse.....its was not the tensioner on ours it is was the other pulley, I changed mine in 2009....still great today,
