Default Miles till empty display

I have a 2009 1500 TRX of a morning as i leave for work my miles to empty will show for example 150 it may drop to 145 miles within a mile. Then as I drive it may go up a mile or two then as I drive its 12 miles to my work and it may stay the same for 10 miles then when I get to work it may be at 143. Does anyone else have this simular issue or is this normal. My wife has an 06 Taurus and her miles to empty gauge is almost dead on with her odometer. Is there anything I can reset?
Thanks in advance

Sounds normal, it is just computing based on the current MPG so it'll go up and down a lot if you are not going at a consistant speed.

mine does that all the time. Its normal as far as I can tell. As oldjeep said, its computing based on the current mpg. Makes sense to me. The higher or lower mpg your traveling you will have more or less miles to empty.

My '12 does it, too. I think of it as a "pretty good estimate" but of course when it gets down a bit lower than 30 it stops estimating and starts telling me to go get some gas right now.

Is there a way to display current MPG? If so, I haven't found that function yet.

On mine there's a little graph you can use to eyeball it. There's a triangle above "average" but no direct readout for current.

The only thing my 09 SLT has is the average mpg. current or instant mpg is not available.

I dont know if those things improved over the 2nd and 3rd gen ones but they are pretty worthless... You can drive around for more than 3 days when it says 0...

I thought it might be recalculating the mpg but wasn't sure as i said the wife's taurus if it says 100 miles to empty in 80 miles it will say 20 til empty. To Saber mine will calculate down to 10 miles then it just says "Low fuel"

I am in the same boat, I have a diesel so its even worse. I read 158kms left, and I drove 200kms and the thing only went down to 105kms. I think it takes into account the average mileage. Because as soon as I do reset after I am done pulling a load, it goes pretty accurate. Nothing to be worried about tho I think, I just read that thing so I have an idea of when I need to fill up. Or around how much longer I can go...
