Default Remote start issue.

Went to start the truck this morning with the remote start. Nothing. Tried 4-5 times. The locks would lock the parking lights would blink, but no start. So I went outside and looked in the driver side window. Tried it again. Lock actuator would lock the door, parking lights blinked, but nothing on the dash lit up. So I unlocked the door, got in and put the key in. Turned the key and it started right up. Stopped the engine and re-tried the remote. Started right up....WTF? However I then stopped it and tried to stat it with the key again and took several turn overs to get it to start again. It sounded weak. 5 years old. Ya think the battery is going to crap out on me now that it is starting to get cold out?

Might be worth having it tested, although at 5 years if my battery were giving any indications of problems I would just replace it.

Your remote start module requires the correct voltage. If your bat it week (voltage just below 12.6V) it may not start it. After you started it, shut it off and re-started it with the remote start it would have charged up the bat and a warmer truck is also easier to start I'd change the bat out before it leaves you stuck and your remote start will prob work fine again after.

Likely needs a battery... but i would at least charge it up, load test it before replacing it.

Many new vehicles are only getting about four years on a battery. I would say your 2009 is in need of a new battery. So far, I've seen even a couple 2011's needing new batteries.

I can tell you which one NOT to buy....INTERSTATE BATTERIES.
I was a dealer for them once, had more bad ones than good ones.

Your factory battery is the new Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) type. Here's some information on them from Johnson Controls who makes probably the majority of batteries in the US. AutoZone sells them in their Platinum Series. Optima's are an AGM type battery. The do cost more than your normal lead acid batteries. You can figure about $180 for the factory type and about $160 for a lead acid that matches your factory group.

Thanks. I was actually thinking of getting an Autozone Platinum battery. I had their Gold one in my Factory Five Cobra and it was over 6 years old and never failed to start.
