voltage gauge drops
I have a 2009 Dodge Ram 2500 with a 6.7 liter Cummins. When I start my truck the voltage gauge drops to around 10, the check gauges light comes on and the electronic throttle control warning light comes on. I restart the truck and the voltage gauge reads normal and the check gauges light and ECT warning light stay off. I took my truck to Dodge and they said it was the batteries and they both were changed, this did not fix the problem. I would appreciate any help with this problem.
Does the voltage drop only while it's cranking? Does it recover once it starts? If the batteries are good, then the starter may be drawing too much current causing the voltage to drop while cranking.
Sounds like it might be your alternator/voltage regulator. One or the other may not be working properly.
After you start you should be reading around 13/14 volts to recharge your system and then settle down to 12 volts.

Sorry to hear about your concerns. Have you talked about this with your servicing dealer and advised that their repair did not resolve your concerns?
If you have any questions or are seeking additional assistance please feel free to PM me.
Check your battery connections and the ground to the frame, any corrosion build up or a loose wire will cause that issue as well. It is something to check before you go and spend more money.
