Default 4x4 light on dash

Hello.

When I shift into 4H the light blinks and then stays on.

When I shift to 4L the light keeps blinking.

Is this normal?

2010 1500 Hemi LoneStar Extended cab.

nope, not normal. light should stay on in 4L also. make sure you are following the procedure to switch to 4L - it's kinda finicky.

I tried at idle but it never quits blinking and never goes into 4L.

I miss manual transmissions sometimes.....

Your vehicle should be checked by your servicing dealer for the issue. It should not be blinking.

If you read the manual it tells you the proper procedure for engaging 4 low
You need to be coasting (rolling forward) at around 2 mph transmission in neutral and 4low selected, after a second 4 wheel low will engage there will be a slight grind or clunk, this is normal.
It will not engage 4 low if the transmission is in drive or park.

Thanks for the advice. It did engage when rolling slowly in neutral.

I still wonder why it won't engage rolling slow in drive. It says it can.

remember the days of having to reverse when taking the vehicle out of 4wd, think about what is going on in the axle when you are moving. I never do it moving for obvious reasons.

This is straight out of the owners manual:

2WD or 4WD LOCK⇔ 4WD LOW
NOTE: When shifting into or out of 4WD LOW some gear noise may be heard. This noise is normal and is not detrimental to the vehicle or occupants.
Shifting can be performed with the vehicle rolling 2 to 3 mph (3 to 5 km/h) or completely stopped. You can use either of the following procedures:
Preferred Procedure
1. With the engine running, slow the vehicle to 2 to 3mph(3to5km/h).
2. Shift the transmission into NEUTRAL.
3. While still rolling, rotate the transfer case control switch to the desired position.
4. After the desired position indicator light is ON (not flashing), shift the transmission back into gear.
