Default took to track and overall 2014 thoughts...

I purchased 2014 RAM 1500 black edition. 5.7, 3.92 rear LSD with the 8 speed.

I will say love the truck, love the MPG, getting about 22-23 hw.

Truck ran about 14 flat. cant find that slip as I think it blew out window getting other but attached a 14.1 and 14.2.

Almost bone stock as only thing done to truck is the 18" Magnaflow.

I had my 04 next to it and first thoughts are the metal is thinner if that is possible. more flex to it... I lift my old tail gate right after my new and really noticed how much heavier the 04 tail gate was vs. the 14..

Carpet thinner, back of seats etc. So I don't know if this will last as long as my 2004 that I got 194k mile on with only minor repairs. Time will tell.

Tailgate has spring assist, it is plenty heavy. Want it to last, stop drag racing a 3 ton vehicle, put some weathertech floor mats in and tell people to keep their feet off the seat backs.

Spring assist tail gate ahhh forgot I read it somewhere

Taking a truck to the track a few times won't affect its longevity. funny you think it would? As proven by the fact my 04 is running strong with 193k on it.

also Weathertech makes a good product but look like crap.

If you are basing it off of the EVIC numbers keep in mind the length of time (mileage) it takes takes to give an average. We had people on here who thought they were getting over 30MPG because that was what the EVIC showed right after it was reset. The reality is these trucks on a good day with no load and a very light foot get at best typically get 18-20 MPG.

The fact you took it to a drag strip and put a loud exhaust on it though would lead me to assume you do not have a light foot. Rest the EVIC and get an MPG reading after 100 miles.

Lastly keep in mind the EVIC is not basing your MPG off any hard data. It's simply an average and by no means extremely accurate.

Yep, the 22 quoted is running on fairly flat highway on way donw to Outerbanks... so a long 100+ mi run. Avg total I am seeing 18+ but I live in a rural area so maybe 60/40 highway to town. I will do the ole fashion fill up and runner to near empty and do the math. should be close.

The 18" Mag is nice but not obnoxious. the 04 had a diff Nag onit and it was loud but i did not wanna go that route especially with the MDS.

Nice driving truck.

Exposing your truck to the drag strip a few times MIGHT not effect it's longevity. But it's certainly not doing anything to HELP longevity. These trucks were not designed for that purpose. Sports cars have engines designed for high RPM driving, shifting and travel. And they are made of much lighter components which puts less stress on a drivetrain. A Dodge Ram is not a sports car. And it's engine and drivetrain is not built for that purpose. Not sure if it's changed but the Hemi has (or had) plastic teeth on the timing chain sprockets.

I have a friend who on his second pass ever at the drag strip spun a bearing on his F150 with just over 40k miles.

And the fact you have 193k on your 04' with no issues does not in any way validate your argument that drag racing a vehicle will cause no harm. That's like a person who habitually drinks and drives justifies what they do because "nothing bad ever happened". Don't confuse luck with durability. We have quite a few members on this forum who needed engine replacements at less mileage then you had. And without ever going drag racing. Just something to think about.

I'm guessing i'm getting around 15MPG on mine. Part of me wants to get an accurate number and part of me doesn't because i think it might be worse!.

The 14's look great. I LOVE my 11' so i can only imagine how much nicer the 14's are. Best of luck.

Thanks. Love my 04 and it treated me so well I had to stay loyal.
