6.4 2500
Looking at new trucks so went and test drove a 6.4 2500 and a 5.7 1500 which is what I had before back to back and the 6.4 having more power seemed a lot less powerful than the 1500. What gives. And what kinda gas mileage is the 6.4 seeing?
Apples to Oranges. The 1500 weighs WAY less than the 2500, not to mention the 1500 has an 8 speed tranny. The rear ends are also geared very differently. That 1500 with 5.7 will blow the 2500 with 6.4 off the line and get much better fuel economy, but won't tow or haul near what 2500 will. That 2500 6.4 will tow over 16,000 pounds and has a payload capacity of nearly 2 tons! By comparison, the payload of a properly equipped 1500 is less than half that.
Non-towing/hauling guys with 6.4 2500s are seeing about 17 on the highway and 13'ish in all around driving if they keep their foot out of it.
The choice between a 1500 5.7 and a 2500 6.4 really comes down to wants and needs...

Define wake up? If you want a drag racer, is not going to happen with a 2500 gas engine, dual ex, ie true dual ex will give you some extra ponys at the expense of $$$$$.
Its a work truck with 100% grunt, not built for speed, keep under or at 2000 Rpm highway and you will get just as good mpg numbers as a 1500 Hemi ( booth trucks empty) Towing your gona get better MPG than a 1500 hemi ( equal LBS) .

Just sharing the info.
I installed an aem dry flow filter to replace the stock one in the 6.4 last night, and I did notice a difference in pickup. I know it might seem like snake oil' but you can hear the sound tone slightly change in exhaust, and it did feel just a tad but peppier".
