Default Location of switched +12V source active when auto-started?

Looking for a wire/connection that is active with +12V when the truck has been auto-started (and, obviously, when it is running normally). Something under the dash or driver's seat preferred, though under hood is OK. I know of always-live sources and sources powered up when the truck's key is on, but not one live with no key during auto start.

Thanks,
Rob

I don't think the one that is switched turns on until the key is on though.

Thanks,
Rob

so remote start is that different? I learned something new today. Now that I re-read your question it makes sense.

When you use auto-start some things turn on in the truck but not everything. Radio comes on, HVAC stuff turns on, heated seats (if computer determines conditions warrant). But various other accessories don't come on until there is actually a key in the ignition turned on. The switched cig lighter outlet is an example.

I'm looking for a +12V source that does light up during auto-start so I can hook in a trigger switch for a heated washer fluid unit.

Thanks,
Rob

How difficult is it to remove your radio? On my with the bench seat, I can get it out in about 10 minutes. You could set up a relay to provide battery power (with an added fuse) to the heated washer fluid unit. I imagine the heater unit needs a lot of amps to work, so the relay makes sense.

here is a link to the wiring diagrams for your truck so maybe you can tap the radio power wire at the TIPM.

I just need a trigger source, not full power. The heater unit is direct connected to the battery with heavy gauge wire and fuse for main power.

I've never had my dash apart. I'm also a little leary of tapping into the radio wiring because I've seen wacky things happen even when just connecting a subwoofer (steering wheel switches get confused). I was hoping for something simple like the cig outlet (for example) that wouldn't be linked to the computer. I'll check out the wiring diagram for more info.

Thanks,
Rob

That might be a good idea. I'll check that out. Thanks.

I tested things and the blower motor looks like a good spot to tap off of for the trigger. It is powered whenever the truck is running (auto-start or regular) just like I was looking for. Thanks for the tip.
