My first dent
After faithfully parking at the far end of Walmart parking lots, avoiding close proximity to other vehicles etc, my baby got hit last night while parked on the street. I made it 5 years and 6 months but it is no longer "new".
It will be repaired, but will require a new (plastic) bumper, headlamp, fender and whatever else is needed to make it new again.
The body shop tells me that the insurance companies here in Canada will cover aftermarket repair parts but will balk at OEM replacements.
So.......
Are the aftermarket parts I would need be acceptable or do I need to fight for originals?
Ballpark estimate for this repair is running perhaps $4000 give or take.

DEMAND OEM! They can fight you on it, but you are the one damaged.

I run a collision shop down here in Louisiana so I dont know if the same rules apply in Canada. Most times, per your contract, you have signed off on insurance using certified A/M parts. However, most dealerships (every one down here) will do competition pricing with collision shops who have an account. Dodge, especially, I know has a MTC (meet the competition) program where they will match A/M pricing. Worth looking into.
if you where hit, you can demand oem parts. Some insurances insist oem parts, Ive seen cars written off because insurance demanded oem parts.
Most places will quote a/m as it is cheaper to make them fit correctly then buy oem, Even a dodge bodyshop has told me this.
Ive my truck was hit (not my fault) I would demand oem parts, minimal filler, and such. Then also go after the depreciation because of a accident on record.
