Went Wifi Hunting.
what you need todo is set up there WEP for them. Then go up to there do and say you can get on the internet because i locked it. If you would like the password, it would be $100. I accept all major credit cards, cash, check, and beer.
Oo... wireless extortion. eh..
but anyone who has any clue how to setup a router, would just reset their box...
speaking of which, i was using free wireless when i was on vacation in a couple places..
one actually had the SSID name of "leach_4_free" spelt exactly like that..
but mainly i use the default or linksys SSIDs, they are quick and on so defaulted there's a guarantee they wont be able to track you.
after a using a few networks like that, its always a good idea to change your mac address and PC name.. basic stuff to keep people from tracking your laptop.

Got the neighbor kids freaked out when I caught him trying to get on my net.
Told him next time I see his computer trying to crack my routers password he may end up with linux on his laptop.
Also let his dad know he's trying to hack into my network. His excuse is he wanted to download songs and not get caught by RIAA.
Forgot to add..
Unauthorized use of someone elses wireless internet intentionally (encrypted or not) can be deemed "theft of service" and we all know how cable companies love to find ways to get money. the free wifi hot zone AP's that some business dont count.

lol.. sad.. how old is the kid, im guessing between 13-17. thankfully Riaa can't do any real ****.. and if you ever got busted for whatever reason by riaa.. just use the 'kids hacked my router' excuse. may work out in your favor..
when i was in Kamloops I used the open wireless points.. there was quite a nice one beside a community center so i didnt look too suspicious.-
i wasnt doing anything with the net other than using it for msn, and browsing a few pages while waiting for a contact.

He couldnt get on anyways. I check the logs every so often and see a MAC thats not mine. USually was around the time the kids got home. HE was about 16 at the time. Wrote teh mac that was trying to get on. Then asked his dad later on what the mac to the laptop was. Lo and behold it was his. From there it was fun time.
I learn something new everday.
I already knew how to secure wireless networks using WEP/WPA/etc, and to use random letters, numbers, and special symbols (strong passwords, something the Air Force requires, so I'm running around with 40 differant passwords [:'(])
Didn't know how to configure the MAC filtering until it was brought up here, and than looked into it. Now I know.

good to hear you learnt something today.
i'd still hate to run around with strong character passwords that included symbols..
definately suck if you forgot even one character of that password.
i've got about 12 that i keep memorized, and at least they're a little simpler without the symbols.
i just learned i am 20gb short of a TB.

i love my broadband card...but by walking around our yard and house, i can connect to several different wireless routers. i accidentally banned my IP a while back and had to log on to someone elses to fix it...
