Bad Power Supply
Damnit now im pissed.
my computer got messed up a few months ago so i used it as a reason to jusify upgrade. on 9/7 i purchased a bunch of new components from newegg to update my pc. one of them was a Rosewill rd600n power supply. it had solid reviews and met all of my needs based on its specs. plus it has 2 blue led fans which is purfect for my system because i have a 100% clear acyrlic case with 5 other blue led fans.
so i get the system running and it was running very strong stable and fast. last night i shut it down to go to bed. this morning i tried to turn it on and it wouldnt turn on. so i get pissed and go to school and figure i will worry about it later. i come home open up the pc and see the sytem led isnt on so i figure either the MB or psu is ****ed up. at first i thought it was the mother board because the power supply has the power switch the glows blue when power is going thru it.
i know that isnt the best reasoning so i try another outlet same result. so i remove the power supply and pull out my old MB throw the old processor and memory into it and see if i plug the power supply in if it would show any sign of recieving power. i get nothing. i know that was a half-assed experiment so i went to my parents pc and unplugged their power supply and plugged this one in. i get nothing from that computer either so i get that one back together and running and have piece of mind that the power supply is the problem.
so i have the power supply alone and plug it into the wall with power. the blue power switch is light and the unit is making a buzzing noise.
so now i amon my **** labtop barely running the internet looking into what RMA is all about. never done it before. i dont know if i am elidgeable and what is involved, but i am pissed because my good pc is ****ed up right in the center of the school year and i am stuck with this garbage pos labtop. i am assuming shipping it to them is at my cost so im bitter about that too.
so im just venting, but anyone else ever buy a new product that should perform great and have it go bad very shortly after you purchased it. i mean i just got my mail in rebate from my graphics card today.
this is a link to my psu unit: http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16817182087
the rest of my system is
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+
Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe am2 570sli
XFX PVT84JUDD3 Geforce 8600GT XXX
Patriot 2x1GB DDR2 800 Daul Channel Memory CasLatency 4
2x lite-on 20x dvd burner sata
seagate sata 7200.10 320gb 7200rpm 16mb cache
this psu
i am also pissed off because knowing what i do now i would of gotten a hdcp graphics card. i just bought a new one so i am really pissed off about hdcp and how i should of known to get it 2 months ago. now that throws off my plan to by another 8600gt and run sli. it would just be a bad investment

RMA stands for "return merchandise authorization". All it is, is a number or code that is given to you to write on the box so when the company receives the item, they don't even have to open it, just forward it to the right department. Dealers that use this usually just send the part back to mfg to get credit and send out another one. This is why you would have needed the box.
As far as buying something that is suppposed to work and doesn't happens to me all the time. I work in the service field for medical equipemnt and I am always buying mechanical and electrical parts for my repair and I can honestly say that I have had several parts arrive that did not work for me. The problem is that robots are programmed to build todays electronic components which makes everything cheaper to the end user. When the component is done, it only gets a 24 hour burn in to check for operation. Not nearly long enough to find out if there is a cold solder or loose connectiion that will pop up a few months down the road. Before the robot, the components were much more expensive as a human would be sitting at a workstation actually building and checking the parts themselves. Parts were more expensive back then, but more reliable.
As for you PS going bad, I can only tell you that it is the most simple circuit in all electronics but at the same time the most vulnerable to defects and getting damaged during use. This is why when you walk into a computer store there are several power supplies in stock and UPS's to protect them, compared to other internal parts.

ok well this has been a slow process so i ordered another power supply. a lower level model, but one that was still good enough to run my pc without putting it at risk. $50. so i have my main machine running again. email hasnt been working out to well with rosewill so i called them. they were very helpful and understanding, so now we finally have things rolling.
im happy again. i have my pc running and things are finally moving about getting a replacement. as for the $50, i charged it so ill worry about that in a few weeks. but hey i now have a decent backup for my good one when i get that one back.
i am still pissed about hdcp. bluray roms are under $200 now.
