I recently dumped older software, cleaned the pc insides out with compressed air and a vacuum.

this thing is still slower than it used to be.

defragged, disk cleanup, ran pc-cillian scans, anything and everything I could think of to clean it up more.. but no change.

any idea???

hdd is backup to 45% availability...

it seems to get slower and slower.

maybe its the pc-cillian security scanning everything I do..

I had been hacked at 1 time a year ago. used as a "sling shot" to speed the other person up..from what I was told...

have 2 physical firewalls, 2 software firewalls

maybe Im just over reacting..I though it was just slow here on DF, but it has become slower on the net in general lately.

I'd say you're definitely overdoing it on the firewalls. Most you should ever need is one good hardware and one good software firewall. Also if your firewall is Norton get rid of that and watch your system speed up instantly Their stuff works decently well but I've stopped using anything by them because they bog a system down more than I find necessary for what they give.

without knowing what specific firewalls you are using, it could simply be they are using up the majority of your system resources. was your computer running fine before with all those firewalls running? also i have never heard of pc-cillian, it's possible that could be causing problems as well.

 

+2 on over-doing the anti-virus and firewalls. avg-free anti-virus is about the best and fastest i see. and anything and everything about Norton/Symantec sucks - get rid of it. i dumped it from 100's of computers at work. all it ever did was trash the computers. hell, it was worse than a virus.

 

too many firewalls, try comodo, freeware and rated very high, try a registry repair, but you may need to reinstall the os. you could also get a program called unhackme, incase yoiu have any malware slowing it down. yes, norton and mcaffee. total junk. try kaspersky, nod32 or bitdefender.
