Are you connecting to the 'net through a router? If so, that can be your firewall...then you don't have to pay for one....

You can download ZoneAlarm here http://www.zonelabs.com/. They have a suite version that they charge for, but the basic firewall is free. It's rated as good or better than most pay for software by Znet, PC Magazine, PC World, etc.

unless the router has a hardware firewall i would go with a software for sure. i use comodo. It is the number two on the last rating i saw. beter than zone alarm and alot of pay firewalls.

http://www.comodo.com/
I personally recommend the comodo pro 2.4 version over the 3.0. its free and very effective.
