i have a dell e1705 ntoebook with a standard graphics card. is it possible to upgrade to a better video card? i am thinking probably 256mb.

No, it is not possible.

Laptop video cards are built into the motherboard...and can not be swapped out/replaced. However, if you can find the same laptop you have with an upgraded video card...you could swap out motherboards.

Unfortunately, that's just no monetarily possible for most people...

I know there are a few models from various companies that have removable video cards....but these are far and few in between...

i have a Dell Inspiron 7500 (P3...slow big.. lol) and you can change out its card... i've taken my card completely out and put it back in... so its not impossible completly...it is impossible if it has the integrated graphics (most laptops do)...

You may be able to get a docking station that will accept a PCI card, but that limits you to using the PCI adapter when you are at home.

VTBook also makes a PC Card video card, but it is probably not any better than what you are using. http://www.vtbook.com/
