Not sure if it is appropriate to revive an old thread, but my challenge seems to be close to the one that the original poster had.
I can't even find a way to add an avatar...
The best I can find is:
user CP > settings and options > edit avatar > no apparent link to add an avatar?
"No avatar selected" appears as the alt text where the avatar would show.
I see a radio button, but I only see the one "o Do not use an avatar".
It is already selected. I can't find a way to unselect it.
Of course, there is a "save changes" button, but I can't make any changes to save.
Also, "reset field" does not appear to have any effect.
What gives?

I can't even find a link or field to fill out - I know I need new glasses, but I'm feeling blind here.
