Default 2001 intrepid problem

ok my girlfriend has a 2001 intrepid which was running just fine... battery light came on we replace it with a new one.. for that whole day the car runned just fine.. till night time when it died on her.. i tried jump starting the car but after you remove the jumper cables the car dies.. if u accelerate it just enough so it wont die it stays on but when you let go of the accelerator it dies also if you press any buttons ex the window buttons the dashboard goes nuts lighting every light back and forth on it... a few days ago i decided to check battery again as a result i jump started the car again and as long as the jumper cables are connected to both cars the car stays iddle and it works fine .. window buttons work fine... note im jump starting the intrepid from a bigger engine from a mustang v8.... after a while of it being idle while jumper cables were connected to both cars i decided to disconnect them and try the window switch again and the car died.. lol anyone know why this might be happening ... theres no check engine light .. the light came on in the pass but took it to get tested twice and they said theres no problem with the car.. or the check engine light did not give them nothing..

the battery died cuz the alternator isn't charging it back up.

which you already properly diagnosed but didn't even realize it.

@ sapporo shouldnt the car stay running though after it has been jump started though? even if the alternator is not working..

and would this cause the lights on the dash board to go nuts?

if you re-read you're whole scenario, then read how an alternator works, you already did the EXACT procedure for troubleshooting a charging system problem.

you solved the problem and don't even realize it.

Alternator, for sure. Once a car is running, if one disconnects the battery, it should stay running. The ignition will be powered by the alternator. However, if the engine dies, that demonstrates that the ignition was being powered by the battery/jumper cables and the alternator is either not producing current or there is a wiring issue. 95% of the time it is the alternator.

My sisters' car had the exact same problem, but I changed the alternator. When I was able to get the car started the same thing it would die after removing the jumper cables. I even took out the battery from from my Ram and put in her car and the same thing would happen. I then checked the the fuse box under the hood and noticed a yellow 20A fuse labeled O2SSR (or something) was blown. I replaced it and all was well for a time being, now it is constantly blowing the fuse every other day and I am stumped. Does anyone know why?

electrical short is what blows a fuse.
